Ajuga reptans (wild bugle) is a tough, evergreen plant with dark green leaves and upright spikes of deep blue flowers from late spring to mid-summer. Ajuga ‘Black Scallop’ has glossy, almost black evergreen leaves. It spreads quickly to form a low carpet, making it an excellent ground cover for shady areas. Grow it in moist, well-drained soil in partial or full shade. It works well under shrubs or in containers, as long as the soil doesn’t dry out. Divide plants in spring or autumn to propagate.
